Leaky Roof Repairs
When the rain gets in, we get to work.
A leaking roof does not wait for a convenient time. South Africa throws everything at a roof — Cape winter fronts, the south-easter, Highveld hail, coastal salt and Durban downpours — and every one of them finds the same small opening. Report the leak, tell us how urgent it is, and we route it to a local repair or re-roof team.
Which roof problem sounds like yours?
Is water coming through your ceiling?
A roof leak damages ceilings, insulation, walls and flooring. The longer it runs, the more of the house it takes with it.
Have you noticed damp patches or water stains?
Brown rings, bubbling paint and damp patches are early warnings that water is getting in somewhere above.
Did the last storm damage your roof?
Hail, wind and heavy rain crack tiles, lift sheets, tear flashings and open up the weak points in a roof.
Is your roof simply at the end of its life?
If patch after patch keeps failing, the covering itself is finished. We arrange full re-roofing as well as repairs.
A national roof leak service, routed to local repair teams
Leaky Roof Repair is a South African roof leak and roof repair service. You report the problem, we assess how urgent it is, and the work is routed to a local roofing team in your city.
Roofs fail differently depending on where you live. Cape Town takes wind-driven winter rain off the Atlantic. Durban and the KwaZulu-Natal coast deal with torrential summer downpours and salt-laden air that eats metal sheeting and fixings. Johannesburg, Pretoria and the Free State get Highveld thunderstorms and hail that crack tiles and strip ridge mortar. East London and Gqeberha live with coastal wind and corrosion that never takes a season off.
That is why the repair advice differs from city to city, and why we keep a page for each market we cover rather than pretending one roof problem fits the whole country.
Repairs when they will hold — full re-roofing when they will not
A great deal of what we are called out for is a leak that can be repaired: a cracked tile, a failed flashing, a rusted fixing, waterproofing that has reached the end of its life. Those are straightforward jobs and we would rather do them than sell you a roof.
But there is a point where patching a roof is money spent on a losing argument. When the sheeting is rusted through, the tiles are porous and shedding their surface, the battens have rotted, or the same area has been repaired three times in two years, the covering itself is finished.
At that point we arrange the whole job rather than another patch: strip and dispose of the old covering, replace damaged timber, battens and underlay, and install the new roof in tile, slate, IBR or corrugated sheeting, with new flashings and gutters where they are needed. If you are not sure which side of that line your roof is on, that is exactly what the assessment is for.
- Tile and concrete tile re-roofing
- Slate roof repair and replacement
- IBR and corrugated sheeting re-roofing
- Thatch rethatching and ridge work
- Flat and low-pitch roof replacement
- Timber, batten and underlay replacement
- Asbestos-cement sheeting replacement
- Gutter, fascia and downpipe replacement
How it works
Four steps, in this order, every time.
- You report the leak. Give us the city, the suburb and a short description of what you can see. Photos help.
- We assess urgency on a scale of 1 to 10. Genuine emergencies rated 7 to 10 go into the emergency queue ahead of everything else.
- The roof is inspected to find where water is actually entering, which is often not where the stain appears inside the house.
- You get a clear explanation of the cause and what needs to be done — a repair, waterproofing, or a full re-roof — and a local contractor carries out the work.
Roof repair and re-roofing services
Leak repair is the call we get most often. Full re-roofing is what we do when a roof has run out of life. Both are covered.
Roof Leak Detection
Finding where the water actually enters, which is rarely directly above the stain on the ceiling.
